The 210 size silicon wafer in the Vertex module will stabilize the photovoltaic industry for the next 5-10 years, with constantly evolving technology driving towards the development of a 600W-plus Vertex. With solar energy fast approaching grid parity, TrinaPro Mega, in its role as an improved ultra-high-power smart solution, resolves several application challenges faced by existing systems. Based on the "TrinaPro" solution, TrinaPro Mega upgrades the long-string trackers for 500W-plus power modules. Furthermore it integrates Vertex modules, Trina Solar's independently developed TCU, smart tracking algorithms and SCADA monitoring systems. For a variety of application scenarios defined by complicated geography, uneven terrain and wind speeds, TrinaPro Mega provides clients with customized solutions to ensure system reliability and efficiency.

With cell efficiency hitting bottleneck, utilizing larger wafers to drive LCOE down and efficiency up has become a trending topic. While solar costs continue to drop, global end-user demand has room for growth. Capacities in the wafer, cell, and module segments are sufficient to fulfil demand for products based on 180-210mm format. In response to the shift of wafer sizes, manufacturers are gearing up for adopting 210mm format in their new capacities, and this means they have determined the size for the next five to ten years. Therefore, this year saw many solar companies adopting different sizes of wafers for their newly launched high-power modules, opening up to an era for 500Wp modules.

Despite being disrupted by the COVID-19 outbreak, module capacity ramps and upgrades are continuing due to size transition and end-user’s requirement on high power output. This year is expected to see more than 50 GW of new module capacity additions. Of the new capacities, more than 25 GW will be able to produce modules based on 210mm wafers, meaning that the module segment has no bottleneck in terms of production capacity.
